Steven R. Starbuck

Steve R. Starbuck is a partner at Brown Armstrong and has two decades of broad-based public accounting and business experience. Steve’s primary specialty is in accounting and auditing. He also applies his knowledge of taxation, finance, business management, and business consulting regularly. His specialties include construction, extractive industries, public companies, and transit and municipalities.

Known for his organizational and inter personal skills, Steve has been Director of Personnel at Brown Armstrong for more than 10 years. He is Co-Chief Operating Officer and applies his understanding and knowledge of managing a business on a daily basis both within the firm as well as consulting with his clients. He also leads the firm’s Construction Industry Services Group.

Steve coordinates the recruitment of the firm’s professional and administrative staff. The recruiting team has done an excellent job identifying individuals that match the firm’s needs and culture. This has enabled Brown Armstrong to grow, enjoy strong employee retention, and continuity of staff on engagements.

Steve is a graduate of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and worked for Ernst & Young before joining Brown Armstrong in 1991. Steve was invited to be a Partner in 2001. He is a member of the AICPA, California Society of CPA’s, and has participated on state and local professional committees.

Being an active leader in the community, he serves on several Boards including Children’s Advocates Resource Endowment (Treasurer), Bakersfield Dragons, Kern County Hockey Club (President), Southern California Amateur Hockey Association and Stockdale Country Club. He is a past President of the Henrietta Weill Child Guidance Clinic and Board member of the Police Activities League.

Steve enjoys working with people and building relationships. He shares his knowledge and expertise daily. He also enjoys sports, music, investing, and an afternoon with his son on the golf course and watching his daughter play volleyball.
