Jay K. Porter

Jay K. Porter works for Brown Armstrong as a Tax Principal. He has 28 years of experience in the tax and accounting field, and has worked for two of the former “Big 8” international accounting firms.  Jay has a broad range of experience and knowledge including specific tax planning for farmers and farm entities, individual and business tax planning, estate and succession planning, entity structuring, buy/sell agreements, tax research, business acquisitions and property exchanges.

 Jay earned his BS Degree in Accounting and MS Degree in Taxation from Brigham Young University and has received his CPA license from both the Oklahoma and the California Boards of Accountancy.  Jay is continuously honing his professional skills by attending high-quality continuing education courses focusing on the areas of Agriculture, Construction, Oil & Gas, Estate, Gift and Trust planning and Small Business Consulting.

Jay lives in Bakersfield with his wife Susan and they are officially “empty nesters”. They look forward to visits from their five children and 4 grandchildren.  Jay has a strong love for music of all types and in the 90’s he played keyboard and sang with a local classic-rock band.  He likes to unwind after work by learning new songs on the piano or strumming an old Hawaiian tune on his ukulele.  Jay grew up in Hawaii and although physically he is now thousands of miles away, his heart will always be in paradise with his island friends and memories.

When Jay is not working, he likes to spend time with his family, play the piano, trombone and ukulele, as well as hike, bike, fish and participate in high adventure activities with the Boy Scouts.
